information

  • This project needs to be done in a well ventilated place and away from nice carpet or flooring.  The 2 part resin is really sticky if spilled and NOT WATER SOLUBLE so clean up is not simple.  Needless to say, make sure that this is away from children.
  • The resin is composed of 2 parts that when mixed that have a chemical reaction that causes it to harden.  It is also the reason it is VERY SMELLY!  Make sure you are in a well ventilated area.
  • When the 2 parts are mixed, the resin gets warm (exothermic)  as it starts to set up.  This is normal but if you are using the plastic bag method to transfer the resin into the gel capsules be careful if the bag starts to get very, very warm - almost too hot to handle.  The bag can weaken since it is getting squeezed and rupture.  This makes a big mess and it is not something you want to accidentally get into your eyes.  Read the product information label if you want further information.
  • I cover my work area with freezer paper that is taped down.  It is plastic coated so the resin doesn't soak through and spills can be wiped off during the project and the paper taken up and disposed of when all done without worrying about trying to get the sticky substances off a table surface without destroying the finish.  You will need alcohol or acetone to clean the sticky areas off and neither of those chemicals are good for wood or carpet.
  • Since it is so sticky I like to use disposeable plastic gloves.  These are fairly cheap at the drugstore.
  • This is a timed reaction once the two parts are mixed so no leaving for phone calls, etc..  It has a limited time that it is pourable, then it starts getting thicker and thicker.

NOTE:  These warnings are not to scare you but facts you need to be aware of to safely work with resin for this project.
